Halves Finding Other Halves

​I spent all the time that I had, convincing myself that I am not a missing piece;

that I was complete. 

But upon meeting you, 

I realised that all along 

I had just been another half 

and with you I feel whole.

Diamonds and Pearls

​”You are like a diamond from the ocean.”

” Don’t you mean a pearl?”

“No I mean a diamond because pearls, they come from the ocean, people find them everyday,  but to find a diamond? 

 Now,  I’ve never heard of that.”

All girls love flowers. 

It’s the way we were made. 

Thank the men who buy you flowers, 

but love those who grow you a garden instead.

Shipwrecked

​I swim back and forth in his eyes

Hoping I’ll be the mermaid he sees

I throw my voice across his way, 

Hoping I’ll be the sirens he listens for

I push the waves against his shore

Maybe one day, I’ll wash up on his sand.

And just maybe, he will finally see me then.

Hurricane Girls

​I could have came into your life as a natural disaster;

I heard hurricanes were females, 

And the boys behaved like  tornadoes. 

I was too late for the tsunami, 

but too early for the earthquakes. 

I came to you 

as typical as the sunsets

but far less beautiful. 

And still, 

You felt my breezes, 

welcomed me into your arms,

and loved me in the palm of your hands.
