Swimming Pools

The issue with moving into modernisation from being nomadic is that we have this sudden obligation to remain somewhere permanently for most of our lives instead of exploring places that seem like other worlds. Swimming pools are a modernised means of connecting with water and our natural instincts but just how natural is this connection? Below is a poem on my perspective of this aspect of modernisation.

They talked about swimming in pools;
“Clean” waters that smell of chlorine
They talked about us like fools
As we wander to places they haven’t been

They talked of civilisation, and enforced rules
So that those who are free are obscene
But they only swim in infinity pools
With a view of the ocean’s gleam

They rely on the media for the news
Yet they refuse freedom to unfurl
They love to swim in glass bottom pools
Yet they turn their backs to the world
